IUG Membership Meeting and Program
ALA Midwinter - San Antonio, Texas
January 14, 2000
IUG Chair, Peter Murray, welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced
the members of the Steering Committee. He indicated that nominees for
Vice Chair/Chair Elect of the organization were still needed, and asked
for recommendations and volunteers. He noted that the change in the
bylaws eliminating consortial membership was overwhelmingly approved. A
consortial office may still be a member, but institutions belonging to the
consortium must have an individual membership in the IUG. The change
takes place this year, and because of the anticipated increase in the
number of members, dues have been lowered from $75 to $60.
Peter spoke briefly about the IUG meeting scheduled for Philadelphia from
April 29 through May 2. Registration will be handled by an outside
contractor, Galaxy, who will provide the option to pay by credit card. A
flyer will be sent out soon, and a registration form will be available on
the IUG Web page. In the meantime, members are urged to make their
reservations at the conference hotel - the Wyndham Franklin Plaza. Their
number is (215) 448-2000, and the rate is $140 per night. He also
mentioned our contract with Morris Travel Agency, who will provide good
rates on airfare; their number is (800) 365-3443.
Karen Perone, Program Chair for the conference, provided a handout listing
the programs and noted that the information was also available on the IUG
Web site at http://innopacusers.org/iug2000/program.pdf. The
preconference will be on April 29, as well as two training sessions
offered by Innovative. The conference itself will include 71 unique
programs in over 130 sessions. Programs have been tracked this year to
eliminate conflicts (e.g., two cataloging programs will not be offered in
the same time slot).
Treasurer, Kathy O'Gorman, announced that total membership in the IUG now
numbers 582 institutions. There was a balance of $54,844 in the treasury
at the end of the year. Invoices for dues were recently sent to all
current members, as well as to previous members.
The following presentations were given:
CSDirect - Katrina Anderson, Innovative
Designing an Effective WebPAC - Jill Zimmerman, St. Phillips
Advanced Searching - Sandy Westall, Innovative
The remainder of the meeting was devoted to discussion in several
different break-out groups including Circulation, Electronic Journals,
OPAC, Cataloging/Database Maintenance, and Acquisitions and Serials.
