We have run across this problem many times here at UCSD. They are
called 'broken holds.' Whenever we come across one or more, we just
email the III Help Desk to have them cleared and they take care of
     them quickly.

This happened to us yesterday. We were waiting for one more
incident before reporting it, but will go ahead. This is the first
time we've seen this. We've now ended up with an "error"
message on the patron's account that was the first person in
the queque.

We have discovered a problem when we clear the hold shelf of expired holds
each morning as we prepare to run our holds notices. The system is not
automatically moving the holds to the next person in the queue. It appears
that this is happening to all holds that were placed after we installed
release 2000. Anyone else noticing this? We have contacted III and so far we
have a call tracking #.
