We don't have electronic reserves from Innovative, but are facing
increasingly the situation where faculty members are creating course web
sites on the campus mainframe, using standard formats, and linking to many
text sites for their required readings. These are protected by passwords.
But they're also completely outside of the III system, which creates
confusion for students who look up "course reserves" on the PAC and find
only the physical pieces that have been placed on reserve but not the links
to the external databases also part of the course.
How are other libraries dealing with this? And for those of you with
e-reserves, how do you manage password access? I don't know anything about
this, so if this doesn't make sense, please educate me! I'll forward the
responses on to our circulation supervisor.
Thanks mucho.
Anne
