Hello Sierra users,
I saw an enhancement request for automatic renewals in 2013. How I can tell if it has been adopted/approved or will soon to be added into Sierra?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Melissa

It wasn't adopted, I think there were a few questions on the listserv as to why it didn't get through the vote. I'm aware in the UK that a few libraries would really like it.

You can implement it through the APIs, as a solution was developed at IUG but we do not have the required hardware (php server) or the expertise to implement and support it and would prefer a native Sierra solution.

I have also chased our sales rep about it, who replied that it was being considered but it's not on the roapmap, that I can see. I'm considering asking our European usergroup to make a representation to the CEO if there is enough support. It is certainly something that would make me move to a different LMS next time we procure.

All the best
Caroline.

Hi Alyssa
There is some information on the API developer network in the forums https://developer.iii.com/forum/categories/269914
There is also a solution on github https://github.com/jamesmatias/api-auto-renew created by James Matias, Middle Country Public Library.

Caroline, do you know where I might be able to find more information about automatic renewals using the API? Is there something in the clearinghouse?

Hi,

Does anyone know if automatic renewals is an option for Millennium? I have just started looking, but haven't found anything yet.

Thanks,
Jennifer

In the quarterly update today Jim T. (CEO) said this was coming for Sierra in 2018.

Does anyone know which 2018 quarter this may be available in and is it going to be available in Sierra?

Hello,
Was there any talk of this enhancement at the IUG? I was not able to attend this year.
Thanks!

Yes, Laura Frasca did a Quick Hits theater on automatic renewals. From my notes:
in Sierra 4.0
works via a loan rule element
once turned on sending courtesy notices automatically renews eligible items and the new due date will be on the notice - this will use a new print template element
local InnReach is supported
will have its own statistical group
patron cannot opt out
no message if item doesn't auto renew
There will be slides on her presentation on the supportal.
Hope this helps.

Hi Melissa -

Yes, it was discussed. I don't quite remember exactly, but I believe it is in beta in Sierra 4.0 and fully released in 4.1. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!
