This is a silly question, but it is driving me absolutely crazy.

We always add a 999 note at the bottom so our cataloger can easily see who added or modified a record and when. Ever since we migrated to Sierra, when we try to Insert a Field into the bib record the Insert Box will not be visible if we have a really long record -- it pops up "off-screen". I opened a ticket with Innovative and they basically said to create the field higher up in the record and then move it down.

Like I said, these are really long records and it si so time-consuming for such a stupid problem.

1) Does anyone know how to fix this? OR
2) Is there an easier way to move the record down than to just right-click on field and select "Move Down" repeatedly until the field is in the correct spot?

Thanks,
Nancy

You could always just avoid using the insert menu altogether and press
return somewhere in the record. That will open up a line for you to type
in the new field information - probably: y 999 initials  (where y is the
INNO field for MARC field). When you save the record, the field will
sort to the last line of the record where it belongs.

This is so simple yet is exactly what I needed to know! I never knew the fields re-ordered themselves on a Save, but it makes perfect sense now that you pointed it out.

Thanks!

Hi Nancy - this is something of a non-answer but it happens often enough for us that I created a staff tip for moving the dialog box back onto the screen: http://uark.libguides.com/sierra/troubleshooting#s-lg-box-20407584

I still have a ticket open for this, #321330. And it's still in issue in beta 4.2. No one complains to me about it anymore, so I haven't pushed it. I guess they have all figured out how to work around it.

Hi All,
in our 4.2 beta (bundle 5) I cannot replicate this - the insert dialog always appears in the same position halfway up the screen. I wonder what the issue is...

I had a ticket open about this ages ago, but it never went anywhere as there just seemed to be too many variables in play (monitor size, screen resolution, position and size of the application on the monitor, whether you use duel monitors or not) and the staff at the help desk were unable to reproduce the problem as their own monitors were large enough that they never encountered the issue when they tried.

I noticed this issue when we were transitioning from Millennium to Sierra and I asked about it. I was told that the issue had been sent to the engineers but that there was no solution as yet.

It still catches me sometimes and I think that Sierra is frozen and unresponsive, when the problem is actually that the insert box is off-screen. For me, it is always off the top of the page when it happens. And the farther down the record I am when I try to insert something, the higher the box appears until it is so far up that it doesn't show on my monitor when I am working at the bottom of a fairly long record. For short bib records, it's not a problem and maybe that's why some people haven't aren't seeing it.
